DETECTION OF EGG DROP SYNDROME VIRUS BY REAL TIME PCR ASSAY

Egg drop syndrome (EDS) is a viral disease of chickens which is characterized by a decrease in egg production accompanied by a reduction in egg quality. Current diagnosis test includes virus isolation, serological test and molecular assay. The purpose of this study was to establish a real time PCR which is cost effective and efficient for EDS virus detection. A real time PCR assay using Evagreen dye was established. The new established assay was found to be sensitive and specific for EDS virus detection.
